Reviewed: Chophaus

I couldn’t be happier to be writing my first restaurant review post lockdown! I absolutely loved being able to order from so many tasty restaurants over the past few months and enjoyed watching brands evolve to fit in the current climate, but let me tell you, nothing quite beats that restaurant experience.

I went along to Chophaus in Oakwood recently to try out their delicious new summer menu with Love Leeds. The interior of Chophaus is absolutely gorgeous, the upper floor has the most decadent roof beams and I’m totally obsessed with the architecture of the building. The restaurant also has lovely, warm lighting and offers up some seriously good date night vibes.

Anyway, onto the food and drink as that’s what you’re all here for! I ordered a Mojito to kick off the evening, which was just what I needed, perfectly paired with our outdoor table situated on the upper floor, tucked away on a private balcony, who knew Oakwood could feel like such a holiday!

For our starter we both tucked into the Chicken Wings, these come with a balsamic glaze, rosemary salt and a herb salad. The wings have this beautiful balance of sweet and salty and are incredibly moreish, the portion for a starter is also pretty generous so you won’t be going hungry. They even give you wipes to de-glaze your fingers after – no mess here!

Whilst taking in the summer evening we waited for our mains, watching the world go by from our little balcony, bliss! I opted for a glass of cool, crisp Sauvignon Blanc to go alongside my main, I went for the Sea Bream which comes with fondant potato, courgette, tomato, capers and brown shrimp. I love that Chophaus clearly label gluten free, dairy free, veggie and vegan on their menu, as someone who is dairy free it makes it so much easier to order.

The Sea Bream wasn’t actually dairy free, but the chef altered the dish to accommodate which I really appreciated. The dish was beautifully presented, almost too pretty to eat, and it tasted great. We also ordered a steak (it would almost be rude not to in a steakhouse!), there is a great variety of sides on offer at Chophaus to pair with your steak, from veggies to chunky beef dripping chips to truffle mac’n’cheese.

After all this delicious food I was stuffed, but of course we had to take a sneaky look at the dessert menu. Darren got the Caramel Cheesecake with verjuice poached raisins and caramelised popcorn, it looked fantastic and judging by the lack of dessert left on the plate when he’d finished, it’s safe to say he enjoyed!

Overall, Chophaus is a lovely place to eat with charming staff and a very gorgeous interior. They also have a decking for you to sit and enjoy drinks outside, along with cute private balcony tables. Chophaus are taking part in the ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ scheme too, so you can dine for less between Mon – Weds until the end of August.
